Abstract: The effect of alterations of natural hydrology on fish have been largely studied in streams, but the response of fish communities to hydrology in marshes is poorly known. For seven years, fish have been sampled in canals of independent hydrological units in the Marais poitevin. Then, we studied the relationship between a set of environmental variables describing hydrology and other characteristics of canal habitats and the specific composition of fish communities, considering the life-history strategy of fish species (opportunism, equilibrium, periodic).
